personality
determined is perhaps the best word to be used when it comes to nikhil. he can also be described as 'timid' and 'awkward', but to mention either of these aspects of him would be to make the fatal mistake of underestimating the strength of his underlying bullheaded-ness and dedication to any cause he takes up. success is his motivator; it's the blood in his veins, and he does whatever is needed to keep that blood circulating. every less-than-ethical bit of experimentation or testing does leave a stain on his consciousness, but he tries not to let this get to him much.
as far things go when it comes to his interactions with others, he tries to keep his head low and obey demands from higher-ups when they come. this adherence to the rules has allowed him to keep his position in his field despite the occasional accusation of malpractice or so, which is reason enough for him to suck it up and deal with some of the unsavory attitudes of his superiors and peers. he can tolerate anything, just about, as long as it means he can remain a [medical professional/doctor/researcher/etc.].
all in all, he's somewhat of a painfully average workaholic, which he's aware of and compensates for with people-pleasing friendliness and a semi-hidden protectiveness over his goals and interests. he's not outgoing, but far from quiet either—when given the chance, he's prone to being talkative, and has a habit of rambling when nervous. nikhil knows both his successes and his failings, and behaves as he thinks any mundane-to-mediocre person should.

generally, this is an OC that is left somewhat open-ended as to fit in any verse. random starters, para, multi-para, one-liners, etc., etc., are all fine; the character's gender is listed as M but gender-bending is possible upon request. i'm open to most things, so long as you ask, but both the character and the admin have to be 18+ if you want something NSFW (mxm/BL, mxf/HL; lgbt+ = OK). i know there's no real way to verify, so all I can really do is ask that you please mot cross this boundary... thank you! most things are OK, just don't be /weird/.

a tale of a bull chasing red.
in the interest of keeping things simple, let it be known that the only aspect of nikki's childhood that's worth noting was his fascination with animals and people alike. learning how they moved, why they moved, what hurt them and what healed them, and so on and so forth. it was assumed that he'd either become a veterinarian or a doctor of some sort, and he eventually threaded the needle by embracing the best of both worlds: a life of research.
academia was where he excelled; relationships with people was where he stumbled. he knows how to be nice, anyone can testify to that, but what he fails at doing is... standing up for himself, at times. the difference between when it's permissible to call something out of line and reject it vs. when it's considered a social blunder to do so is unclear to him, and so it seems easier to be agreeable to most things.
his parents knew it, his professors knew it, and his current superiors know it; everyone agrees that it's been as much of a boon to nikhil as it has been a detriment. he takes on more than he can manage, sleeps little so as to make time for work and any demands from patients, coworkers, and superiors alike, and likes being someone that people turn to when in need. it's exhausting, but it's due to his warmth and tolerance that he got through school and entered the medical field, so he has no regrets in that right.
research is somewhat of a vague title for what he does, but it fits best when the responsibilities foisted onto him blur the lines between being a medical practitioner and a researcher (or so the in-universe explanation goes.).
he's more of a 'caretaker of research subjects/patients' than a traditional doctor or researcher, but he does know enough to assist himself and others when they're sick or injured... so long as it's external. overall, between physical work, paperwork, and whatever else he's made to deal with while on-site, he doesn't have a whole lot of time left over to tend to any friendships or relationships, but most anyone he knows is understanding of this fact. rarely has he had a falling out with anyone over how little time he can spare people, but the number of friends he has is certainly limited regardless.
still, he's satisfied with his life. nikki feels as though he couldn't ask for more... other than a bit of extra free time, more studying and research material to take home, and help with his projects and wards so that he can be relieved of having to worry, fuss, and anxiously obsess over how much he has to deal with every day... but, other than that—he couldn't ask for more!

although referring to 'science' as a lover of nikki's is a comment borne of irony and amusement, his love of health and applied sciences is very much not a laughing matter. to him, anyway.
human anatomy is one of his favored subjects, and he's been a student-teacher many instances before just for the opportunity to delve endlessly into the topic. surgeries are another interest of his that he'll talk about at length, albeit while excluding the... 'icky'-sounding parts of it, much to the relief of the audience. (and for his own sake, lest he accidentally slip up and divulge any of his workplace's instances of foul-play to uninvolved parties.) overall, he's held a love of medical matters, injuries, and the body's general means of functioning for as long as he can remember, so it's almost safe to say that it's the one thing he loves wholly and without conditions. people, on the other hand... well, he tries his best to get along with them. love for what he perceives as his calling comes first and foremost; all other pursuits occur either in tandem or secondarily.
