Hattori Haru is a kunoichi of Iga. The heiress of the Hattori clan.
Haru has an extreme sense of pride in her abilities, and when she cannot accomplish a task, she usually feels extreme shame and remorse. Breaking her familyโs katana is a common cause of shame.
Haruโs most often seen way to pass the time is meditation; during inactive moments, even with potential danger near, she is usually seated on the floor with legs crossed, eyes closed. So deep is her trance that she's virtually unmovable from this posture.
Haru shows allegiance to Japanese culture as strictly as her traveling and unique lifestyle can allow. She dresses in a short kimono, she prefers wearing her hair long and in a ponytail with three strands framing her face. Her preferred food is Japanese cuisine, which is one of her two great weaknesses, as cops & a few enemies have used her favorite foods to lure her into traps. She has also been bribed into doing things she doesn't want in exchange for Japanese food. She is a firm believer in Buddhism and Shinto. Although she may toast with champagne, her drink of choice is sake.
Haru has had the training of a master ninja, perhaps giving some reason behind her willingness to find thievery as an acceptable practice.
She is compassionate to those in need or those who have died.
Haru has other weaknesses that are used against her, such as her desire to protect children and her fondness for Japanese food. She is bad at resisting pleas from children despite her best efforts to ignore them. If a child is hurt, she feels a deep need to avenge them. She once got stuck with a kid, she treated the child as her own until he ran off with the other kids back to the acting school. Japanese food is something she can be easily bribed with. She will go out of her way to track down the only restaurant in town with Japanese cuisine. Wasting Japanese food or ruining her meal is one of the fastest ways to invoke her fury.
Hattori Haru is a lifelong adherent of a number of Japanese martial arts, particularly Kenjutsu, Karate, Jujutsu and Iaidล. Her training gives her many extraordinary talents, i.e. underwater breath control for diving without an aqualung, and a limited understanding of the supernatural. She can easily beat several trained thugs in unarmed combat and catch an arrow or a thrown dagger with her bare hands. Her trademark skill is near-superhuman fleetness, enabling her to slice bullets in half before they make contact. It should be mentioned that, despite the deadliness of her weapon, Haru will never take a human life unless challenged to a duel, and even then only if the opponent reveals a dishonorable nature. Although her sword gives her a virtually undefeatable advantage, it is Haruโs talent with the weapon that proves more valuable in a pitched battle. Haru, like the rest of the Lupin Gang, is also talented at disguises and impersonation, speaks several languages, and is a trained driver and pilot, although she prefers being a passenger rather than taking the driver's seat.
Haru has exceptional cold tolerance, being able to stay in snow or deep water dive with no protection from the elements. She nearly always refused to wear socks in the snow, choosing to go in nothing but sandals, & nearly always refused to wear a diving suit. She has also been shown to be resistant to tickling sensations, shown when her friend tries to tickle her underwater.
She functions as the team nurse, nearly always being the one to apply bandages & treat wounds. She is the backup rescue for the team, showing up at the last minute to rescue someone in a dire situation. Sheโs the other team scout aside from Lupin, sent on solo missions to follow someone or sneak in & relay information back to the team. She is the team shield, standing in the front of the line to deflect waves of bullets with her sword.
Despite these strengths, she has been known to have several weaknesses. Jigen also claims that Haru is a terrible liar who wears her emotions on her face, thus Lupin will often not fill Haru in on plans. Haru is still an expert when it comes to keeping secrets under duress & will not say a word under torture, demonstrating a high pain tolerance as well.
Haru has a petite, yet athletic build, and her black hair, remarkably divided in three angular bangs at the front, in the back her ponytail is about mid-thigh length and held back tightly. Haruโs outfit is a plain blue color, consisting of arm guards with the sleeves of her kimono tucked in. Her footwear consists only of sandals with leg guards that are wrapped around her shins, and ankles, somewhat realistically protecting her from foot related injuries.
Haruโs normal clothes consist of a white sleeveless loose shirt, blue denim pants, and gray and black sneakers. She also carries a grey backpack.
As a child, Haru was soft-spoken and polite, always addressing people with proper honorifics. She is kind, always thinking of others more than for herself, caring for their feelings and well-being. She doesn't like being confrontational for any reason. This led to her being meek or timid to others, as her overwhelming kindness can render her unable to respond or act for fear of offending somebody.
