About me: "Never do more than what you're capable of. And do no harm, unless you really mean it. Then do lots of harm," was what echoed every morning in Son Jin's head - an ideal that never seemed to stray from his every action. It was his senior and much older half-brother, Son Ken, who had drilled the standard of never doing more or less than what you intended to do. For the Son family, it was the difference between success and failure - and for a Yakuza member like Ken, it extended to questionable business practices and sometimes, the difference between having your guts spilled out or coming out of a fight with nothing but a deeply-seated scratch. Ken was the man who was usually tasked to assassinate anyone who got into his boss's way - how else could they have gotten rid of competition when there was always money at stake?
As a troubled young man who found himself getting into street fights growing up, Jin had no idea what he was getting into when Ken had taken an interest in teaching him some martial arts. He was taught a mix of techniques that ranged from the intercepting fist of Jeet Kune Do, the grappling art of Judo, and the surgical practice of the sword in Kenjutsu. After intense bouts of training, Jin's older brother slowly started introducing him into the world in which he operated, even introducing him to the boss that he served, Ganryu. Seduced with immediate employment and the potential to make lots of money, Jin started off taking small, menial (and rather harmless) jobs at various sectors of everyday society. It wasn't long until Ken decided to test Jin's loyalty, using their history together as a way to appeal to Jin, taking him on some of his own assassination assignments.
It was rather unsettling for Jin, at first, but somehow the job grew on him with every new broken bone and severed limb. The both of them went on assignment after assignment, cleaning the competition up for their boss. Then, after growing eager to prove himself to the boss, Jin took on an urgent, high-risk task. However, once Jin was found to have failed at delivering on the assignment, Ken was ordered to teach Jin a lesson in sacrifice - a finger from each hand for the failure. Refusing to cause any harm to Jin, that loyalty to his brother that had grown to be bigger than the loyalty to his boss, ended with Ken taking an even bigger punishment - the old feudal practice of taking his own life to make amends. It was right then that Ken's words had begun spiraling in his mind, "Never do more than what you're capable of." With a sense of guilt, a longing for his brother, and a need to get himself out of the Yakuza, Jin went on the run, proving himself a disloyal member - a course of action that led Ganryu to order a bounty on the man that even extended to rival gangs, some of whom the Son brothers have fought against. With a plethora of gangsters on his tail, those final words lent to him from his brother became his reality: "Do no harm, unless you really mean it. Then do lots of harm."
OUT OF CHARACTER There are so many people that have issues with mass comments. I never mind them. It at least shows they are trying to give an opening to talk, to me at least. But! I did send you a discord request!
Hello there. I do hope you can overlook the copy-paste nature of a mass comment. I am Davari, I hope it is a pleasure to meet me. If chatting is something you would rather do, I would appreciate keep that in comments. Messages are always open for story and set up. And please do not shy away if crossover is needed. I adore fitting into other verses. Feel free to reply to this when you get the chance. ย
